Pan’s generous donation of a firmware 6.72 PS4 allowed me to test out the process myself, write up a walkthrough, add support to the Mod Compendium for easily generating modded update PKGs and even begin porting the Persona 5 Mod Menu to the P5R.
Thanks to lipsum, update PKGs created with the Mod Compendium automatically include his logo skip patch for even quicker bootup after applying mods. He also made it possible to extract P5R’s CPKs (including files with a previously unseen ENCRYPT attribute that broke all other CPK extractors).
RayFireFist was a huge help testing the process himself and getting me up to speed on it. I couldn’t have done any of this without the whole crew.
Fortunately, the process should be future-proof, allowing us to easily switch gears to the English P5R once it’s decryptable on a firmware with a public webkit and kernel exploit. There’s no definites on when that will be, so hang tight for now.
As of this post, you need a firmware 6.72 PS4 and a fake PKG of Persona 5 Royal (JP) CUSA08644 to benefit from this process. I know that’s a very narrow select group of people, but please be patient while we await more developments in the future.
