Aemulus Mod menu, not showing when pressing square

So after the long hours of trying to get a mod supported eboot file, I finally did it after that I downloaded the mod menu with the softlock fix on my ps3. Started a new save and a message did appear that it is installed, but when i press square, it just goes with the defaut auto recover instead of the menu, Any help? Do I also need to download the mod compendium for it wo work?
